Looking down the hill into the Pelourinho neighborhood in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. The name pelourinho refers to a post/pillar that slaves were tied to and whipped. For many decades the Pelourinho Hotel had a metal sculpture, in their courtyard, depicting a man whipping another tied to the pillar. It has been removed.
